Police have charged a roommate is a fatal stabbing is Middle Tennessee State University basketball player Tina Stewart.

The Daily News Journal reports that police charged 18 years Murfreesboro Shanterrica Madden of first-degree murder. Police spokesman Kyle Evans said Madden Stewart stabbed during an argument.

Two others were removed as suspects after police interrogated them.

The 21-year-old Stewart had multiple injuries when the authorities found, Evans said. She was taken to the Middle Tennessee Medical Center and was later pronounced dead.

Stewart averaged 5.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in 28 games this season for the Blue Raiders (23-6). MTSU is the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Tournament Sun Belt Conference this Saturday in Hot Springs, Arkansas

The team is scheduled to travel to the tournament on Friday, according to The Tennessean in Nashville.

The school announced on its website a call memorial will be held at 7 pm EST Thursday at Murphy Center on campus.

Middle Tennessee President Sidney McPhee, who spoke of his father Stewart said in a press conference that the entire University is mourning the death of "an amazing woman, talented and vibrant young people." McPhee said Stewart had spent the last three to give thanks with his family because he could not return home on leave.

"The anguish I feel like a father and a president ... but personally, as a father with a daughter the age of Tina can not be adequately expressed in words," said McPhee.

The directors were alerted to assist in the campus.

Athletic Director Chris Massaro was emotional during the press conference.

"This is an unspeakable tragedy for one family," said Massaro. "My biggest concern is Tina and her family. The team has been destroyed, but we will work together ... through one step at a time."
